Stewardship Giving FAQs
Each year, every member of St. Matthew’s is asked to make a financial commitment to provide for our church, and in making our yearly stewardship pledge, we support the mission of St. Matthew’s and answer God’s call to serve one another. As you make your pledge, we ask that you give in the spirit of generosity and love.
What is a Pledge?
A pledge is a heartfelt commitment of faith and an intentional financial commitment to support our parish and ministries in the year ahead.
Why make a Pledge to St. Matthew’s?
A pledge is a vital component of a spiritual discipline. God has blessed us, and we return a portion of that gift to our church home as a sign of our gratitude and faith.
How much should I pledge?
Your pledge is a personal decision and should be developed through reflection and prayer, grounded in faith and a commitment to God’s work through St. Matthew’s. We encourage the Christian tradition of proportional giving.

How is a pledge different from an offering plate gift?
With your pledge, the Vestry of St. Matthew’s is able to anticipate our income and develop our annual budget. Your pledge allows us to plan for all that we do.
Collections from our offering plate are given to our outreach mission partners.
What if my financial situation changes and I am unable to fulfill my pledge?
Please understand that we are grateful for your intention to support our ministries. We ask that you let one of our Clergy know so we can adjust our budget accordingly. All conversations will remain confidential.

How is Legacy Society/ Planned Giving Different from Pledging?
Members of the Legacy Society are those who have designated a gift to The Parish of St. Matthew Endowment Fund in their estate plans. In a very practical way, the future of St. Matthew's is being sustained by planned giving. As The Endowment grows, its returns will provide an income stream for future maintenance of our beautiful grounds and church campus.
If you have included St. Matthew’s in your estate plans or would like to learn more about Planned Giving please let us know. Gifts to our endowment are appreciated and welcome at any time.
