Formation in Christian SpiritualityScripture encourages us to “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Pet. 3:18). The Christian life is a lifelong journey of growth, transformation, ministry and discovery, that begins in a baptized person’s earliest years and lasts throughout our lives. Saint Matthew’s offers a wide range of programs and activities to allow our parishioners of every age and season of life to “grow in grace and knowledge.” For Children and YouthFor children and youth, Saint Matthew’s Church School provides a safe and nurturing environment for children of all ages to explore their faith and their place in our church community. Grade-level Sunday classes are taught by a team of dedicated lay leaders under the leadership of the Reverend Julie Bryant. For further information about our programs for children and youth, contact Julie at 310/573-7787 ext. 129, or via email. For AdultsHere are some of the many opportunities for adults to grow, in their lives in God here at Saint Matthew’s. For further information about any of these programs, contact The Reverend Michael Seiler at 310/573-7787 ext. 123, or via email. The Sunday Morning Adult Christian Formation Series meets at 9:15 am on Sunday mornings. Topics change frequently, and the current series is entitled “Four Saints.” We’ll talk about what we mean when we refer to “Saint Somebody-or-other,” and what the saints might have to say to our lives today. We’ll also look specifically at several of the great personalities of the Church, some ancient, some very modern, some male, some female, some famous, some obscure, and get a sense of just what God was up to in their very unique and interesting lives. This series meets each Sunday from February 13 through March 6 in Founders’ Living Room. Our parish’s Emmaus small group ministry offers a wide range of opportunities to meet with other members of our parish to share our spiritual journeys, worship together, deepen our knowledge of Scripture, and offer ourselves in service to the wider community. The Rector’s Bible Study takes place each Wednesday morning where a group gathers with our Rector for informal study and discussion of the Gospel of Luke and its sequel, the Acts of the Apostles. All are welcome—the only things you need to bring are the Bible and an open mind. Education For Ministry provides an in-depth, four-year curriculum of Scripture, theological reflection, and church history. It’s a demanding but deeply rewarding experience, led by a team of highly trained parishioners. In May of 2005, Saint Matthew’s will be offering a series of classes entitled “Engaging Saint Matthew’s.” Designed for people who are new to our parish community, “Engaging Saint Matthew’s” is a perfect way to meet some of the wonderful people in our parish, get to know the parish priests, and learn a lot about our mission and ministry in a short time. |
