Turning Point Dinner
Turning Point is a group home for adults
transitioning from homelessness to independent living. Be one of
the cooks who provide a home-made entrée, sides and dessert
for about 60 people, or be one of the volunteers to deliver and
serve it to friendly and appreciative residents in the dining area
at Turning Point in Santa Monica. Food service takes place in Santa
Monica on a weekend early evening. Kids 8 and up can help serve.
This is a good family-friendly activity. |

Habitat for Humanity Work Day
Volunteers can spend a full day on a Saturday helping out on a construction
site to build a home for a low-income family. Come prepared for
painting, hammering, and other construction-related projects. Minimum
age is 16. Contact John Martineau for the location. |

Thrift Shop Dinner
Anyone who has volunteered at the Thrift Shop or marking center
is invited to a fun thank you dinner at the Parish Center. The
meal is served by the Outreach Commission. |

Adopt-a-Family for St. Joseph Center
St. Joseph Center, which serves
homeless and low-income individuals and families in West Los Angeles,
provides a “wish list” of
simple holiday gifts for their clients. “Adopt” an
individual or family by providing new items like blankets, backpacks
and grocery gift cards to be distributed by St. Joseph Center. |

The Saint Matthew’s Christmas Faire
100% (yes, we really mean
100%) of the proceeds from the Christmas Faire go to our Parish Outreach
partners. There are countless ways to support the Faire, from volunteering
time to baking and craft-making, donating an auction item or underwriting
expenses. There are opportunities to help out from September through
the end of November. |

The proceeds from the Christmas Faire raffle will
be presented to Ann Mills of Angel Interfaith Network during the
10:15 Sunday service. Angel Interfaith Network serves families in
crisis through LA County/USC Hospital and is a long-time Outreach
partner of the Parish. |

Go to Bread and Roses Café in Santa Monica, and be the volunteer
server to guests, who are successfully transitioning from poverty
and addiction to a better life through the assistance of the St.
Joseph Center. This is a very rewarding, no-cost service experience
in a pleasant atmosphere. |

Fourth Graders from the Parish School will be on the patio after
church services, looking for sponsors for their Hunger Walk. Proceeds
go directly to CROP, a global hunger-fighting organization and
the Westside Food Bank, which helps distribute food to those in
need here on the west side of Los Angeles. |

Project Angel Baby Supplies For Angel Interfaith Network
Help fill baskets with baby essentials to be given to the neediest
families with newborns at LA County USC Hospital. Donors are needed
to help underwrite the costs of the baskets, to shop for baby supplies,
and to help fill the baskets with baby essentials. |

Saint Matthew’s is participating in a city-wide interfaith
event called Big Sunday to gather toiletries and hygiene necessities
for OPCC (formerly Ocean Park Community Center), which distributes
them to homeless families and individuals in Santa Monica. |

Saint Matthew’s Thrift Shop
The Thrift Shop needs volunteers every day, but especially on Thursday
and Friday afternoons from 1-4 pm and anytime on Saturday.
The Thrift Shop “Summer
Brigade” helps cover for times during the summer when our regular volunteers
take a well-deserved break. If a group would like to work at the shop, they
can arrange in advance to structure their shift according to their needs. |

One of our outreach partners, Step Up on Second, helps people with
mental health issues get back on their feet. They offer vocational
training through a convenience store and catering company in Santa
Monica, run by Step Up’s clients. It is called Fresh Start
