What Is DOCC?

DOCC (it sounds like “dock”) is a twelve-week journey into the heart of Christian community.

St. Matthew’s is making a major, long-term commitment to DOCC as one of the foundations of our life together as a Christian community. As Godly Play is the cornerstone of our children’s spiritual formation at St. Matthew’s, so DOCC will be for adults.

In association with our sister parish All Saints’ Beverly Hills, St. Matthew’s is bringing DOCC from Washington National Cathedral, where it has changed many lives, to the Diocese of Los Angeles.

How Does DOCC Work?

Each week’s DOCC session includes a presentation by Michael Seiler on a different aspect of the Christian spiritual life.

At the core of the DOCC experience is a small group of people, led by trained facilitators, who gather week by week to think, share, learn and pray together.

DOCC isn’t focused on Scripture or theology or dogma - it’s focused on how ordinary human beings like us can answer Christ’s call to be transformed in mind and heart from selfishness to love, and from isolation to community.

When Is DOCC?

Wednesday evenings, February 29 - May 23, 2012
(no meeting on April 4)

Simple Supper each week at 6:00 pm
Presentation at 7:00 pm - Small groups meet from 8:00 to 9:00 pm

A DOCC “Retreat Day” at St. Matthew’s, Saturday, March 31, 9 am - 2 pm

DOCC is a twelve-week experience of discovery, with incredible power to change the way we experience our spiritual journey through life. By focusing on specific stories, parables and “Jesus Scenes,” in both presentations by Michael Seiler and then in small groups, the love of Christ for us took on a new and intensely personal meaning.

We see the hand of God working in our lives in concrete ways we never understood or appreciated before. And our feeling of connectedness and community with the other members of the group, despite our differencesin age, sex, race, and so on, was awe-inspiring. It was an amazing experience!
